Denmark permits off-leash dogs on many beaches starting October 1
Starting October 1, dogs will once again be permitted to run off-leash on many beaches across Denmark. This seasonal allowance remains in effect until March 31, while leashes are generally required from April 1 to September 30.
Experts from Agria Dyreforsikring emphasize that off-leash freedom requires owners to maintain strict control. Lotte Evers, a dog expert and marketing manager at Agria, notes that a reliable recall command is essential, as dogs must return immediately even when distracted by wildlife, other dogs, or people.
Maintaining control is vital for the safety and comfort of others. Even social dogs can cause distress to children, adults with fears of dogs, or other pets. An Agria survey indicated that 32 percent of surveyed dog owners had experienced their dog being attacked by an off-leash dog, with 6 percent reporting serious injuries to their pet.
