Denmark: Pet preparedness guidelines for long-term crises
Following an increase in cyber threat levels, guidance has been issued regarding emergency preparedness for pets in Denmark. While authorities recommend that humans prepare for at least three days of self-sufficiency, animal welfare organizations suggest pet owners plan for 7 to 14 days of supplies.
Essential preparations include maintaining updated microchips, registration, and physical ID tags with contact information. Owners are advised to keep printed copies of health records and vaccination details.
Recommended supplies include: • Food and water: At least seven to 14 days of food (including special diets) and sufficient drinking water with purification tablets if necessary. • Specific pet needs: Harnesses and leashes for dogs; litter and trays for cats; and ample hay for rabbits or guinea pigs. • Medical supplies: A 7 to 14-day stock of necessary medications and printed contact information for veterinarians. • Hygiene and comfort: Cleaning supplies, extra towels, and toys to help animals manage stress during infrastructure failures affecting electricity, water, or transport.
