Denmark: PM denies EU opt-out referendum as former EU-skeptic group faces police report

The curator of the defunct Folkebevægelsen mod EU (People's Movement against the EU) has announced intentions to report the organization to the police following its bankruptcy. The curator, Michala Roepstorff, stated that public subsidies totaling 773,818 DKK were used for operating expenses that did not align with the intended purpose of the grant. The funds, provided by the Danish Agency for Culture and Palaces, were meant to finance an activity program for 2025.

While former leadership members claim that project-related expenses were indeed incurred and suggest the repayment claim should be reduced by approximately 328,500 DKK, the Agency has filed a claim for the full amount due to a lack of required financial reporting following the association's closure.

In a separate political development, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen addressed questions in the Danish Parliament regarding Denmark's legal opt-out from EU cooperation in areas such as justice and home affairs. Responding to inquiries from Pernille Vermund, Frederiksen denied any government plans to hold a referendum on the legal reservation during the current election period, pledging to maintain control over immigration and border security.
