Denmark PM Mette Frederiksen criticizes mass immigration policies

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has criticized European mass immigration policies, stating that Sweden and France have been severely damaged by the arrival of foreigners. Frederiksen remarked that too many people have entered Denmark and Europe who ‘do not understand how to behave and who commit crimes,’ calling for stronger government action.

Denmark has been a leading advocate for stricter European immigration policies, including offshore return centers, tighter asylum rules, and faster deportations. Frederiksen has also worked with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to advocate for reinterpreting the European Convention on Human Rights to facilitate the expulsion of foreign criminals, an initiative that reportedly secured support from 27 Council of Europe countries in October 2025.

Her comments come amid ongoing disputes with the Council of Europe regarding Denmark’s efforts to deport foreign criminals. Frederiksen maintains that human rights frameworks should not prevent the removal of non-citizens who commit crimes.
