Denmark police record highest number of smishing fraud reports

In June 2024 Danish police logged 1,367 complaints of SMS‑based fraud, the highest figure recorded since monitoring began. The number far exceeds the 445 and 394 cases reported in April and May, and the 187 cases logged in June of the previous year.

The National Center for IT Crime (NCIK), part of the National Unit for Special Crime (NSK), attributes the surge to criminals sending large volumes of fake messages that impersonate companies such as Q‑Park, Apcoa, the delivery service Dao and the health app Min Læge. Victims are urged not to click any links in suspicious texts and to visit official websites directly.

Investigating smishing cases is difficult, especially when no financial loss is reported, as police lack a money trail. The figures are derived from the police case‑management system Polsas, which may not capture every incident, so the actual scale could be larger.
