Denmark: Political debates over citizenship screening and parliamentary chaplaincy

In Denmark, the Liberal Alliance party has proposed that citizenship applicants who have shared Hamas-related content on social media should be summoned to interviews at the Folketinget. Party leader Alex Vanopslagh stated that this highlights the need for a more robust screening model to identify individuals who appear strongly anti-democratic before granting citizenship.

Separately, a new arrangement has been implemented allowing members of the Danish Parliament to contact three priests from Holmens Kirke for pastoral services. While the scheme was established at the request of the Folketinget, it has sparked debate among politicians. The Bishop of Copenhagen, Peter Skov-Jakobsen, noted that the church is merely accommodating the demand rather than initiating the activity.
