Denmark proposes 67.8 million DKK for new marine nature parks

The Danish government and the Alternative party have proposed allocating approximately 67.8 million DKK in the next annual budget to establish new marine nature parks. This initiative aims to strengthen the marine environment and facilitate active nature restoration, such as the creation of stone reefs and the planting of eelgrass.

The government intends to establish at least five additional marine nature parks, following the two already established in Øresund and Lillebælt. The funding is planned to be distributed over three years, with roughly 22 million DKK allocated annually for 2027, 2028, and 2029.

Torsten Gejl, the environmental and nature spokesperson for the Alternative party, has expressed hope that Aarhus Bugt will be included as one of the new sites due to its significant potential for restoration. Environment Minister Maria Reumert Gjerding stated that these parks will provide sanctuary for marine life to recover from decades of human exploitation.
