Denmark reconfirms welfare agreement and pension indexing

Danish political parties have reached a new consensus regarding the country's welfare and social security systems. The government, along with Venstre, the Conservatives, SF, and Moderaterne, has reconfirmed the 2006 welfare agreement. This agreement maintains the life expectancy indexing of the state pension age, linking retirement age to increasing life expectancy.

Finance Minister Peter Hummelgaard stated that re-establishing the agreement was necessary following the recent general election. The issue of pension age had previously caused significant political friction during government formation negotiations.

Separately, discussions regarding the unemployment benefit system (dagpenge) are ongoing. Nanna Højlund has expressed agreement with Venstre that the system requires attention due to decades of weakening benefits. However, she criticized Venstre's proposal to shorten the benefit period based on economic cycles, arguing that workers need a stable safety net regardless of economic fluctuations.
