Denmark records highest fuel prices in European Union

Denmark has the highest fuel prices in the European Union, according to a report from the Unimpresa study center. As of August 20, Euro 95 gasoline in Denmark costs 2.445 euros per liter, while diesel is priced at 2.250 euros per liter. Denmark is the only EU nation where gasoline prices exceed diesel prices.

Other high-cost markets include the Netherlands, which has the most expensive diesel in the EU-27 at 2.383 euros per liter, followed by Germany, Finland, and France. Italy ranks seventh in the EU, with gasoline at 1.988 euros and diesel at 2.079 euros per liter.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, Malta offers the cheapest fuel in Europe, with gasoline at 1.340 euros and diesel at 1.210 euros per liter. Other low-cost countries include Sweden, Poland, and Bulgaria. The report notes that price disparities between member states are primarily driven by national taxation, such as excise duties and VAT, rather than the cost of the refined product itself, which remains relatively uniform across the single market.
