Denmark removes US officials from Rebild Fourth of July festival over Trump’s Greenland remarks

The annual Rebild National Park Fourth of July celebration in Denmark, historically the largest Independence Day event outside the United States, has cancelled participation by American officials. Organisers agreed to drop the US embassy’s presence after President Donald Trump’s comments about seizing Greenland sparked local backlash. Municipal council member Lasse Olsen described Trump as “an imperialistic mad man” and urged the festival to forgo US officials, threatening to lose public funding of about $50,000. The decision was accepted despite disappointment from the US embassy, which declined to comment. Attendance is expected to fall to around a thousand, far below the historic crowds of tens of thousands, as the event’s focus shifts from diplomatic ties to the controversy.
