Denmark seatbelt regulations and passenger fines
In Denmark, seatbelt regulations dictate different responsibilities and penalties based on the age of the passenger. For passengers aged 15 and older, wearing a seatbelt is an individual responsibility; failure to do so results in a fine of 1,500 DKK.
For passengers under the age of 15, the driver is responsible for ensuring the child is correctly restrained. Violating this rule can lead to a fine of 2,000 DKK, a loss of points on the driving license, and an additional 500 DKK payment to the Victim Fund (Offerfonden).
Data from the Road Safety Council (Rådet for Sikker Trafik) indicates that while driver seatbelt usage is at a historic high of nearly 98%, rear seatbelt usage is approximately 93%. The council notes that nearly one in four fatalities in passenger and commercial vehicles could likely have been prevented if seatbelts had been used.
