Denmark sees record electricity price swings and a local power outage in Horsens

On August 5, spot electricity prices in Denmark’s western (DK1) and eastern (DK2) price zones showed extreme volatility, falling to as low as 0.4 øre per kWh in the afternoon and rising to 129.3 øre per kWh in the evening – a spread of more than 320 times. The cheap afternoon window lasted several hours, prompting advice for households with variable tariffs to shift energy‑intensive appliances to those periods.

At the same time, an unplanned power outage affected about 790 customers in central Horsens. The local supplier Konstant reported that technicians were locating the fault and expected service to be restored by 06:30. Police also issued a missing‑person alert for 15‑year‑old Freja, last seen near Hedensted, adding a public‑safety dimension to the day's electricity‑related events.
