Denmark: Serious sexual assault cases head to court

Two significant criminal cases involving serious sexual offenses are proceeding through the Danish court system.

In Helsingør, a 45-year-old man faces charges for 52 criminal offenses, including the rape of young children and indecent exposure involving children and teenage girls. The indictment also includes charges for grooming and the possession of over 700 images of minors found on digital storage devices. Many of the victims are identified as the man's foster children or his daughter's friends.

Separately, a member of a Danish political party's national leadership is set to appear before the Copenhagen City Court. The individual, whose identity is protected by a name ban, is charged with the rape of a 12-year-old girl, attempted rape, and indecent exposure occurring in two separate incidents in 2024. The indictment also includes charges for drug possession and stalking a victim nearly every day for two months despite a restraining order. The trial is scheduled to begin on September 18.
