Denmark tightens parking enforcement and fines amid festival crowd concerns

A resident of Skanderborg complained that the municipality granted a parking permit for only a single day during the annual festival week, despite many spaces remaining empty. Last year she received three fines for parking in the same spot, and this year she applied in advance but was limited to a 12‑hour permit, prompting criticism of the city's handling of festival‑related parking.

Separately, Danish authorities outlined five common parking rules that many drivers overlook. A standard parking violation carries a fine of 510 kroner in 2026, rising to 1 020 kroner for misuse of handicap spots or areas near driveways, and up to 2 040 kroner for vehicles over 3 500 kg. Violations include standing for three minutes or more, parking on the left side of the road contrary to traffic law, and parking within prohibited distances from pedestrian crossings, intersections, bus stops, or railway crossings. Up to three fines can be issued for the same offence within 24 hours.
