Denmark to Accelerate Pension Adjustments Amid Inflation
The Danish government announced plans to reform the pension‑adjustment system so that benefits can be updated more quickly when inflation rises sharply. Under the current model, the state pension and other transfer payments are indexed to wage growth from two years earlier, creating a lag that reduced retirees’ purchasing power during the 2022 inflation surge.
Political spokesperson Rasmus Stoklund said the new proposal will make the system more resilient to periods of high inflation. The change follows recommendations from the Economic Advisory Council (De Økonomiske Vismænd) and long‑standing pressure from the senior‑interest group Faglige Seniorer, whose chair Mette Kindberg highlighted the “Fair Pension” initiative as a top priority. Details of the new model are still being negotiated in parliament.
