Denmark to introduce new rules against spoofing calls

The Danish Agency for Digitalization (Digitaliseringsstyrelsen) has proposed new regulations to combat fraudulent spoofing calls. These rules aim to reduce the rising number of scam calls where criminals manipulate caller ID to display a Danish phone number, even when the call originates from abroad.

Under the proposed rules, telecommunications providers will be required to identify whether a displayed number is actually located in Denmark. If a call displays a Danish number but is traced to an international location, it will be classified as a fraudulent spoofing call and must be blocked by the provider.

The regulation has been sent for consultation and is expected to take effect on January 1, 2027. Once implemented, providers must adopt technical measures to comply with the new standards.
