Denmark to invest 300 million DKK in childcare staff education
The Danish government has announced the first phase of a new education and recruitment strategy for the childcare sector. Minister for Children, Seniors, and Housing, Jacob Mark, stated that 300 million DKK will be prioritized for children in 2027.
Of this total, 150 million DKK is earmarked for the 2027 budget to focus specifically on the education and upskilling of pedagogical staff, including pedagogues, pedagogical assistants, and assistants. This initiative aims to address recruitment challenges, as approximately one in four attempts to hire a pedagogue currently results in an unfilled position, often leading institutions to rely on unskilled workers.
The strategy seeks to improve the quality of childcare by increasing the number of trained professionals, following the implementation of minimum staffing standards which has already seen an increase in staff numbers.
