Denmark tourism rises amid shifting travel preferences
Tourism in Denmark is seeing significant growth, with hotel stays in the Capital Region increasing by 7.2 percent in July compared to the previous year. Jeppe Møller-Herskind, director of the industry organization Horesta, attributes this success to enhanced global promotion of Denmark, the country’s gastronomy, and hospitality. Additionally, cooler temperatures have made Denmark an attractive destination for tourists from Southern Europe.
However, extreme weather conditions in Southern Europe are influencing future travel plans for Danes. A YouGov survey conducted for Gjensidige indicates that 30 percent of Danes who travel abroad are either unwilling to return to Southern Europe next summer or are considering dropping those destinations. This shift is driven by concerns over heatwaves and wildfires. Lene Ovesen, director of travel insurance at Gjensidige, suggests that travelers can mitigate these risks by staying informed about extreme weather and choosing travel periods outside of the peak season.
