Denmark TV scandal: Comedian Rasmus Wallbridge deceived for months

The Danish broadcaster TV2 is facing intense criticism following the release of a six-part series titled “Alle elsker Rasmus” (“Everyone Loves Rasmus”). The program involved a months-long deception of actor and comedian Rasmus Wallbridge, who was led to believe he was finally realizing his dream of producing his own feature film.

Approximately 150 friends, colleagues, and celebrities participated in the prank, which included lying to Wallbridge and filming him with hidden cameras. The deception was reportedly instigated by a close friend and business partner. Wallbridge only discovered the ruse in the final episode, at which point his perceived opportunity collapsed.

In response to widespread backlash, TV2 has removed the series from the internet and issued an apology. However, calls for an independent investigation and personnel consequences continue to grow. Critics, including the editor-in-chief of Politiken, have described the production as “mobbing of the worst kind” and “psychological violence.”

Denmark’s Minister of Culture, Zenia Stampe, characterized the broadcaster’s actions as “completely blatant and unethical.” Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen also commented on the incident, expressing hope that the case would increase awareness regarding moral and ethical responsibilities in broadcasting.
