Denmark warns of MitID phishing and prize scams

Authorities and financial services in Denmark are issuing warnings regarding various phishing and fraud schemes targeting citizens. Nets has issued an alert concerning fraudulent emails that misuse the company’s name, logo, and address. These phishing attempts claim that a user’s MitID account is blocked and pressure recipients to update their information via a link to avoid service interruptions.

Separately, there is a rise in prize scams targeting elderly individuals. These scams often involve messages or automated calls claiming the recipient has won a lottery or prize, such as Eurojackpot. Scammers typically demand upfront fees, taxes, or administrative costs before funds can be released. Some fraudulent calls use spoofing technology to mimic legitimate Danish phone numbers or banking institutions.

Security experts advise citizens to avoid clicking links in suspicious emails, to never share MitID or banking credentials through unsolicited messages, and to verify any competition or prize through an organization’s official website rather than provided links.
