Denmark warns of rising phishing and deepfake scams

Authorities in Denmark are warning citizens of a surge in sophisticated phishing attacks following a leak of 8.8 million CPR numbers, names, and addresses in early October. Scammers are sending fraudulent emails and SMS messages impersonating MobilePay, MitID, or banks to exploit victims' fear. These messages often use stolen personal data to appear legitimate, prompting users to click links that lead to fake login pages designed to steal digital identities and bank access.

Separately, a new wave of fraudulent advertisements is targeting consumers using artificial intelligence. These scams feature deepfake videos of well-known figures, such as TV doctor Peter Qvortrup Geisling, appearing to endorse health supplements for osteoarthritis. The organization Faglige Seniorer has warned that these videos are entirely fabricated and advises anyone who has provided credit card details to contact their bank immediately to prevent further misuse.

Authorities advise never to share MitID codes, passwords, or card details via unsolicited messages and to always log in through official apps or by manually typing web addresses.
