Denmark waste management updates: New recycling and pest control measures

Waste management entities in Denmark are implementing new initiatives to improve recycling and hygiene. AffaldPlus is launching a pilot program in Slagelse, Sorø, and Ringsted starting in mid-August. The two-month trial introduces specialized closed containers at recycling centers specifically for fallen fruit, such as apples, pears, and plums. This measure aims to prevent fallen fruit from being mixed with general garden waste, which can attract rats.

In Holbæk Municipality, the waste management company Fors is preparing for a new waste scheme set to begin in 2026. The update will involve new combinations of waste types and adjusted collection frequencies to better accommodate larger volumes of plastic waste. The transition also includes a shift toward using electric garbage trucks to support green transition goals. The changes follow the expiration of current renovation contracts and aim to optimize resource utilization through improved sorting.
