Denmark wastewater discharge and water quality monitoring updates
Denmark is seeing changes in how wastewater and water quality data are monitored and reported. A new website has been launched to allow citizens to check water quality, addressing weaknesses in previous models that were only subscribed to by a limited number of municipalities.
Despite these developments, concerns remain regarding bacteria from wastewater that may exist beneath the water surface. Additionally, while the most criticized wastewater treatment plant in the country has significantly reduced its discharge of mixed rainwater and sewage, it still remains at the top of the annual list for diluted wastewater discharge by Danish water companies. Such overflows and bypasses typically occur following heavy rainfall when systems are overwhelmed.
