Denmark weather: Bornholm recorded as sunniest municipality in warm 2026 summer

Denmark experienced a notably warm and sunny summer in 2026, ranking as the ninth warmest in the country's history. The season saw 769 hours of sunshine nationwide, which is 126 hours more than usual. Bornholm was identified as the sunniest municipality, followed by Læsø and Lolland.

However, the high temperatures and increased sunshine contributed to widespread drought conditions across much of the country, particularly affecting Bornholm, Fyn, and North Jutland. Læsø was recorded as the driest municipality, seeing only 21 days of rain throughout the summer.

As the season transitions, weather patterns are shifting toward more unstable conditions. Recent forecasts indicate a period of rain, wind, and showers across various regions, though meteorologists predict a brief reprieve with more sun and calmer winds expected by Sunday.
