Denmark wolf population grows to an estimated 77 wolves

The wolf population in Denmark is expanding, according to preliminary monitoring data for the 2026/2027 season. Researchers from Aarhus University, DCE, and the Natural History Museum Aarhus report that the population has grown to an estimated 77 wolves, up from 49 in the previous season.

At least 61 wolf pups have been registered during the current breeding season, which is 15 more than the previous year. The expansion includes the establishment of new territories, with new pairs and packs identified in areas such as Estvad, Dejbjerg in West Jutland, and Renbæk in Southern Jutland.

Minister for Nature and Animal Welfare, Christian Rabjerg Madsen, noted that the increasing population may increase the necessity for general wolf regulation. The monitoring period continues until April 30, and final figures may change due to natural mortality or unregistered pups.
