Denmark’s Camping Tourism Booms as German and Spanish Travelers Flock

Denmark’s outdoor‑vacation sector is expanding rapidly. More than 500 campsites across the country hosted 21.2 million overnight stays by German visitors in 2024, accounting for over 60 % of all foreign nights. Demand is growing among Spanish tourists as well, attracted by the nation’s natural landscapes and sustainable travel options.

For a two‑person caravan or motorhome, nightly rates typically range from €30 to €50, with basic three‑star sites charging about 75 Danish kroner (~€10) per person. Additional fees for electricity, environmental charges or pets are common, while wild‑camping is restricted to designated spots.

The sector’s quality has been recognised by the ACSI Awards 2026, which highlighted several Danish camps for their facilities, glamping concepts and proximity to fjords, dunes and coastlines. The country’s “hygge” lifestyle and a network of modern amenities, including the Camping Outdoor Museum at Egeskov Castle, are further boosting its appeal to European road‑trip enthusiasts.
