Denmark's citizen proposal on industrial pig farming hits record

A citizen initiative titled “Borgerforslag mod industriel svineproduktion i strid med Dyrevelfærdsloven” was submitted on 14 January in Denmark. The proposal seeks to tighten regulations on industrial pig production under the Animal Welfare Act has attracted 94,255 signatures, surpassing the previous record for citizen proposals by about 1,000 signatures. The earlier record was held by a proposal to eliminate all gasoline and diesel taxes. The surge in support highlights growing public concern over animal welfare and intensive farming practices in Denmark.
