Denmark's July Electricity Prices Drop, Giving EV Owners Cheaper Charging

In July 2026 the average electricity price for Danish consumers fell from 1.33 kr/kWh (including taxes and tariffs) in June to 1.27 kr/kWh, while the spot price dropped from 0.82 kr/kWh to 0.76 kr/kWh in West Denmark and from 0.81 kr/kWh to 0.77 kr/kWh in East Denmark. The month also saw 49 hours of negative prices in West Denmark and 10 hours in East Denmark, far more than the same period the previous year.

The lower rates created many cheap charging windows for electric‑vehicle owners. In the cheapest hours the spot price fell to about 0.18 kr/kWh, allowing users of Norlys’s smart chargers to program their cars to charge automatically when electricity was cheapest. Ellen Trolle, director of Norlys’ charging business, highlighted that the July price dip underscores the importance of solar and wind generation for driving electricity prices down, even though the overall average remained higher than in July 2025.
