Denmark braces for heat wave as temperatures rise to 33 °C
Denmark's Meteorological Institute (DMI) has issued a heat‑wave warning for Friday through Sunday, with temperatures expected between 28 °C and 33 °C across most of the country, excluding the islands of Bornholm, Samsø and Læsø. The warning follows a rise in temperatures already above 25 °C on Wednesday, and a heat‑wave is defined as an average of the three highest daily maximums exceeding 28 °C.
The forecast has triggered a surge in demand for cooling products. Retailer POWER reports a 565 % increase in sales of fans, portable air‑conditioners and other climate‑control devices compared with the same weekend last year, with shelves emptied in many stores.
Public health advice from DMI stresses staying hydrated, seeking shade, wearing light clothing and monitoring for signs of heatstroke. The Danish Food‑Safety Authority also issued tips to protect pets and livestock, urging owners to provide water, shade and avoid leaving animals in hot vehicles.
Similar unusually warm conditions are being reported in other European nations such as France and the United Kingdom.
