Denmark's Mette Frederiksen faces criticism over migration stance

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has faced criticism for adopting hardline migration stances similar to far-right politics. Following a difficult election that resulted in a minority-coalition government, Frederiksen recently joined Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in calling for extreme measures within the European Union.

The calls for action followed an incident in Ceuta, a Spanish enclave in northern Morocco, where approximately 80,000 people attempted to enter. The attempt resulted in the reported deaths of over 140 individuals, including a 12-year-old girl. Frederiksen suggested the EU consider suspending cooperation within the Schengen Area, a cornerstone of European integration that facilitates free movement across 29 countries.

Critics argue these positions jeopardize European unity for domestic political gain, noting that despite the alarmism, no individuals from the Ceuta enclave traveled onward to Denmark.
