Denmark's PFAS Soil Cleanup Stalled as Landfills Refuse Contaminated Soil

The Danish Environment Agency estimates that between 150,000 and 500,000 tonnes of PFAS‑contaminated soil must be excavated over the next ten years. Efforts to remove the toxic material have come to a halt because the country's main landfill operator has stopped accepting the waste, and other disposal sites cite the high economic risk.

Both regional authorities and industry groups report that PFAS cleanup projects across Denmark are now frozen, leaving a large-scale environmental and public‑health challenge unresolved.
