Denmark's Sankt Hans Eve celebrations in Copenhagen and Aarhus
On Monday, 23 June, Denmark will mark Sankt Hans (Midsummer) Eve with a series of public bonfires and festivities across its two largest cities. In Copenhagen, events are scheduled at Tivoli's lake, Sluseholmen waterfront, Seaside Toldboden, Amager Strand, Lindevangsparken, Nyhavn, Blågårds Plads and Kayak Bar. Activities include traditional fire‑lighting by archer Lars Andersen, live music, choir performances, children’s games, taco stalls and fireworks.
In Aarhus, celebrations will take place at Tivoli Friheden (with a mayor’s speech and a concert by På Slaget 12), Modelparken’s family‑friendly bonfire, a waterfront fire on Aarhus Ø promenade, the creative hub Godsbanen with workshops and performances, and Skanseparken’s picnic‑style bonfire with music and snacks. Most events are free, though some venues require tickets. Both cities advise checking weather conditions and event pages for possible cancellations.
