Akita City Offers Free Admission to Ōmoriyama Zoo on July 12

On July 12 2026, Akita City will mark its “city commemorative day” by opening Ōmoriyama Zoo to the public free of charge. The holiday commemorates the opening of the city hall on July 12 1890, a date formally designated as a city memorial in 1929. All visitors can enter the zoo without a ticket; however, any electronic tickets purchased for that day will not be refundable. The zoo has been using electronic tickets since April 2025.

The free‑admission day is promoted as an easy outing for families, friends, or individuals who wish to enjoy the zoo’s animals without cost.
