Denns BioMarkt and Too Good To Go rescue 2.2 million food bags in Germany

Since launching their partnership in June 2020, German organic retailer Denns BioMarkt and the food‑waste app Too Good To Go have reached a new milestone: 2 222 222 surprise bags of surplus food have been saved nationwide. The bags, collected from more than 410 stores at an average of 23 per store each week, contain items such as bakery goods, imperfect fruit and vegetables, and products nearing their best‑before dates.

The initiative, promoted under the “Save it, cook it” slogan, also provides recipe ideas and occasional giveaways for customers who pick up the bags. According to the Institute Blonk, the rescued food represents resource savings equivalent to the CO₂ emissions of over 20 000 Berlin‑London flights, the land area of nearly 24 000 tennis courts, and the water contained in 11 million bathtubs.
