Denny Hamlin honored at Richmond Raceway and outlines retirement goals

Richmond Raceway has installed a permanent tribute to the family of NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin. Ahead of the Cook Out 400, the track replaced specific grandstand seats in Section H, Row 11, with a custom commemorative bench and plaque titled ‘In Honor of the Hamlin Family. Forever Rooted in Virginia.’

The tribute honors Denny’s parents, Mary Lou and the late Dennis Hamlin. Hamlin shared that his father made significant financial sacrifices to fund his early racing career. Following a house fire in North Carolina on December 28, 2025, Dennis Hamlin passed away at age 75 from injuries sustained in the blaze.

Separately, Hamlin has detailed his professional ambitions leading up to his planned retirement at the end of 2027. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver expressed a goal to win his final scheduled start in all three of NASCAR’s top series. Having already achieved a win in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, he intends to secure a victory in a Truck Series race and a final win in the Cup Series before exiting the sport.
