William Byron wins Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway
William Byron secured his first victory of the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season by dominating the Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway. Driving the No. 24 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports, Byron led 362 of the 500 laps and swept both stages to earn a maximum points day.
His teammate Chase Elliott finished second, completing a Hendrick Motorsports sweep of the top two positions. Ty Gibbs took third place. The race was notable for its long green-flag runs, including the longest stretch without a caution at Martinsville since 1987.
Championship leader Kyle Larson finished ninth after a difficult race marked by a pit strategy that saw him fall off the lead lap early on. Despite the setback, Larson maintains a 67-point lead over Christopher Bell and a 70-point lead over Denny Hamlin heading into the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Larson requires only nine points in the final race to clinch his third career Cup Series title.
