Denny Hamlin Secures Pole at Pocono for Great American Getaway 400

Denny Hamlin posted a lap of 51.948 seconds at an average 173.250 mph to claim the Busch Light pole for Sunday’s Great American Getaway 400 at Pocono Raceway. The pole is Hamlin’s sixth at the “Tricky Triangle” and the 51st of his Cup Series career, tying Ryan Newman’s total. It also marks his fifth pole of the 2026 season and his third consecutive pole, following wins at Michigan and Nashville.

Hamlin’s pole puts him in position to chase a third straight race victory, a feat achieved by only 30 drivers in NASCAR’s modern era. He leads the points chase, narrowing the gap to Tyler Reddick to 51 points ahead of the race. Kyle Larson qualified second, Daniel Suárez third, and a full 38‑car field is set for the event.

Due to forecasted rain, race officials moved the start time up two hours to 1 p.m. ET, with live coverage on Amazon Prime Video, MRN and SiriusXM. Several drivers, including Christopher Bell (wrist injury) and Bubba Wallace (qualifying crash), will start from the rear after backup cars or repairs.
