Denny Indrayana to challenge Gibran’s credentials at Constitutional Court

Former Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Denny Indrayana plans to file a lawsuit with the Constitutional Court regarding Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s high school educational credentials. The legal action, intended to be filed following a public contest to find evidence of Gibran’s graduation, seeks to challenge his eligibility as a vice presidential candidate during the 2024 election.

Indrayana stated that his goal is to seek Gibran’s resignation rather than pursuing impeachment through Parliament. The lawsuit is expected to include multiple petitioners, including representatives from a forum of retired military personnel.

Legal observers, including criminal law expert Edi Saputra Hasibuan, suggest the lawsuit faces significant hurdles. Experts note that the 2024 presidential election results were already declared final by the Constitutional Court in April 2024. Critics argue that administrative or educational document disputes may not be sufficient grounds to overturn a final election result or to remove a sitting Vice President.
