Denny Indrayana urges Gibran resignation following court ruling
Constitutional law expert Denny Indrayana has called for Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka to resign following a Constitutional Court ruling. The court stated it found no evidence regarding the high school equivalency diploma required for his 2024 presidential candidacy. Indrayana argued that since Gibran no longer meets the legal requirements, he should step down for moral and ethical reasons to protect the reputation of the republic and his family.
In a related development, Indrayana also criticized the appointment of former General Elections Commission (KPU) Chairman Hasyim Asy’ari as an Independent Commissioner at PT Perkebunan Nusantara I (PTPN I). Indrayana suggested the position might be a form of appreciation for Asy’ari’s role in facilitating Gibran’s candidacy through specific KPU regulations. He noted that Asy’ari was previously dismissed from the KPU due to serious ethical violations involving indecency, and highlighted the lack of a 'grace period' law to prevent former high-ranking officials from immediately taking positions in state-owned enterprises.
