Denny's initiates restructuring and closes 150 U.S. locations
Denny's is undergoing a strategic restructuring following its transition to private ownership in 2025. The company was acquired in a deal valued at approximately $620 million by a group consisting of TriArtisan Capital Advisors, Treville Capital Group, and Yadav Enterprises.
As part of this transition, the diner chain is closing approximately 150 underperforming U.S. locations. Executives state these closures target older sites with expiring leases or declining traffic, allowing the company to redirect resources toward locations with higher sales potential. This downsizing is intended to modernize the brand rather than signal a retreat.
The revitalization strategy, referred to as ‘Project Grand Slam Restaurants’, includes menu updates, franchise synchronization, and the launch of a catering service via ezCater. The company aims to adapt to shifting consumer habits, such as the increased demand for takeout and delivery, while navigating rising labor, food, and utility costs.
