Deno Company announces launch with $4.9 million seed funding

The Deno Company has announced its launch with $4.9 million in seed capital to develop a modern programming system for server-side JavaScript. The project aims to address fragmentation and infrastructure issues in the current ecosystem by providing a productive environment that adheres to browser APIs.

Deno is designed as a modular set of technologies rather than a monolithic system. This architecture allows for the creation of custom runtimes tailored to specific needs, such as serverless functions, embedded database scripting, or GUI applications, by compiling out unnecessary bindings.

The seed funding was provided by investors including Dan Scholnick of Four Rivers Ventures, Guillermo of Rauch Capital, Lee Jacobs of Long Journey Ventures, Shasta Ventures, Ben Noordhuis, and the Mozilla Corporation. The company intends to use the capital to hire expert engineers to ensure timely releases and platform stability while maintaining an MIT license.
