Denominación de Origen La Mancha advances rules for de‑alcoholized wines
The regulatory council of the Denominación de Origen La Mancha held its semiannual assembly in Tomelloso, a key wine‑producing town in Castilla‑La Mancha. Participants discussed a proposed amendment to the DO’s governing charter to give wineries greater flexibility in response to market evolution.
New proposals target the development and production of partially de‑alcoholized wines, a segment gaining interest from consumers and export markets. The council also began work on a guarantee scheme that would certify fully de‑alcoholized wines (0.0% alcohol), offering consumers clearer quality assurances.
DO president Carlos David Bonilla said the measures aim to help member wineries confront a global decline in wine consumption, rising international competition, and shifting consumer preferences toward more diverse products, thereby strengthening the sector’s competitiveness.
