DENSO and TÜV Rheinland Japan Publish White Paper on EU Battery Passport Rules

DENSO Corporation and TÜV Rheinland Japan Ltd. have jointly produced a technical white paper on the EU Battery Passport initiative, which will become mandatory under the European Union Battery Regulation by February 2027. The paper outlines the regulatory requirements for batteries used in automotive and industrial applications and discusses practical challenges such as unique battery identification, lifecycle data management, stakeholder access control, and interoperable system architectures.

The collaboration follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed in September 2025 to promote Digital Product Passports. The document is intended to help economic operators—including automotive and battery manufacturers—understand compliance obligations under both the EU Battery Regulation and the Ecodesign Regulation. It provides an overview of global developments, data‑definition standards, and IT‑architecture needs, and is available on request for companies responsible for Battery Passport compliance.
