Dental health: Benefits of brushing before breakfast

Brushing teeth before breakfast is recommended to remove plaque and bacteria that accumulate overnight due to reduced saliva production during sleep. Using fluoride toothpaste before eating helps strengthen enamel, providing a protective layer against food and beverages.

Brushing immediately after consuming acidic items, such as orange juice, citrus fruits, or coffee, can increase the risk of enamel erosion due to the friction of the toothbrush on softened enamel. If one prefers to brush after breakfast, it is advised to rinse the mouth with water and wait between 30 to 60 minutes to allow saliva to neutralize acids and stabilize the enamel.
