Dental Implant Eligibility and Gum Care Guidelines

Dental implants require sufficient jawbone volume and density for successful osseointegration. Candidates are evaluated on bone health, medical history and lifestyle factors. Conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes, osteoporosis, certain bone‑strengthening medications, autoimmune diseases, smoking, prior head or neck radiation and active gum disease can affect healing, but do not automatically disqualify patients; they may necessitate bone grafts, sinus lifts or tailored treatment plans.

Maintaining healthy gum tissue around implants is essential to prevent inflammation and infection. Plaque control through regular brushing, flossing and professional cleanings helps preserve the soft‑tissue seal that protects the implant and underlying bone. Early signs of gum irritation, bleeding or swelling should prompt dental review to avoid complications.
