Dente del Gigante rescue: Climber suspended for 12 hours

A Polish climber was rescued after spending nearly twelve hours suspended on a rope approximately forty meters below the summit of Dente del Gigante in the Mont Blanc massif. The rescue operation was significantly delayed by dense fog, which prevented helicopters from flying safely for much of the night.

Emergency services, including the French PGHM mountain rescue, were eventually able to reach the climber late in the morning when a brief break in the clouds occurred. The individual was airlifted to Chamonix for medical evaluation. A second climber, part of the same party, remained at a belay station in the rock wall and could not be reached due to deteriorating weather; plans are being made to reach her via ground routes.

The rescue effort involved specialized teams from the Soccorso Alpino Valdostano and the Guardia di Finanza (SAGF), who initially attempted a ground-based rescue when aerial support was impossible.
