Dentist in Rondônia accused of intentional HIV transmission

Jean José Dunga de Oliveira, a 41-year-old dentist, is facing trial in Rondônia, Brazil, accused of intentionally transmitting HIV to multiple sexual partners by omitting his diagnosis. Investigations by the Public Ministry of Rondônia (MP-RO) suggest the defendant has known his HIV status since at least 2017.

Victims report that the implant specialist gained their trust through effective communication and then induced them to engage in unprotected sexual intercourse. One victim noted a pattern in his behavior, stating he targeted emotionally vulnerable women. Medical testimonies indicate that the defendant did not adhere strictly to antiretroviral treatments, preventing him from reaching an undetectable viral load, which would have stopped transmission.

The case has prompted concerns from prosecutors regarding the possibility of numerous unidentified victims, as the defendant reportedly traveled frequently. While the defense claims he was undergoing treatment and did not believe he was infecting others, the legal proceedings continue following his preventive detention in Porto Velho.
