Dentists face high risk of musculoskeletal disorders
A review published in the ‘International Dental Journal’ highlights the high prevalence of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) among dentists. Research by Volodymyr Maksym indicates that up to 78% of dentists may experience these issues.
The physical demands of the profession, including maintaining forced body positions, repetitive movements, and the need for precise hand motions, contribute to these disorders. Common symptoms involve pain in the back, neck, and hands, often caused by leaning forward, bending the cervical spine, and prolonged sitting or standing. These conditions can significantly impact a practitioner's productivity, ability to work, and overall quality of life.
