Denton Police Chief George Bacorn dies in Maryland vehicle crash

Denton Police Chief George Bacorn died on Friday, September 25, 2026, following a two-vehicle collision on Maryland 331 near Dover Neck Road. The crash involved Bacorn’s Chevrolet Tahoe and a delivery truck. Maryland State Police reported that Bacorn died at the scene, while the driver of the delivery truck was airlifted to a trauma center. An investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.

Bacorn, 62, had served the Denton Police Department for 36 years, having joined in 1990 and being promoted to Chief in 2020. Maryland Governor Wes Moore described him as a dedicated public servant and ordered Maryland flags to be flown at half-staff in his honor. The Town of Denton expressed deep condolences to Bacorn’s family and the police department, noting his long-standing commitment to the community.
