Dentsu Lab Tokyo unveils sensory AI technologies at CEATEC 2026

At the CEATEC 2026 exhibition held at Makuhari Messe, Dentsu Lab Tokyo showcased several experimental technologies designed to expand sensory communication and brand experiences.

One notable exhibit is ‘Suu Ramen’ (Sucking Ramen), a device that allows users to experience the sensation of eating ramen without actual noodles or soup. By combining specific food-grade fragrances with synchronized sounds and visuals, the device recreates the experience of slurping noodles. The project was inspired by a desire to allow individuals with dietary restrictions, such as those needing to limit salt intake, to enjoy the sensory pleasure of eating ramen.

Additionally, the company introduced ‘FANTOUCHIE,’ an AI-driven system that generates tactile sensations for non-existent objects. Users can input text descriptions—such as ‘dragon scales’ or ‘kraken tentacles’—and the AI generates a corresponding texture delivered through a specialized vibration device. This technology has potential applications in education, following a previous project that enabled ‘tactile reading’ for folk tales.

The exhibition also featured research into human-robot interaction, including a dog-shaped robot designed to respond to eye contact and gestures to foster emotional attachment.
